What is the Alexander Technique

It's a system of kinaesthetic training which offers a radical approach to pain, dysfunction and disability.  The basis of the work is a set of neuro-muscular skills learned in one-to-one weekly sessions. These skills embody the concept of “primary control” uncovered by F.M. Alexander over a century ago, as well as the potential for an “endless process of growth” described by the John Dewey, philosopher and psychologist.  They are taught by gentle micro-manipulation and verbal tuition.

The Alexander Technique addresses the root cause of habits which harm health or functioning, and as muscle behaviour is adjusted, posture tends to change and persistent pain is alleviated.  Anna has received referrals from rheumatologists and neuro-surgeons for difficult cases.

In 2008 the British Medical Journal published the results of a trial of the Alexander Technique and back pain, stating that the Technique was both cost-effective and also effective 12 months after treatment.
